How To Make Grapes Last Longer

Three weeks agone I started an experiment.  I was determined to encounter what the best method is for washing (or not washing) and storing fruit to brand it terminal longer.  I hate when nutrient goes bad and I accept to throw it away!  Information technology's basically throwing coin in the trash.

So I purchased strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries and grapes for my examination.  I tested three different methods – unwashed in original packaging, washed in vented containers, and washed in airtight containers. Strawberries

Strawberries were by far the worst in all three containers but the end of the 21 days.  I did notice the fastest turn down in firmness and texture in the unwashed multifariousness.  They didn't mold as fast, but they became more shriveled and soft.  The venting and airtight containers yielded like results, but I found strawberries one fruit that seems to be all-time eaten within the first week.


Raspberries

Blueberries

Blackberries

Similar to the other berries I tested, the washed blackberries in the airtight container stayed the most fresh – by far.  There was no mold or mushiness at the stop of 21 days.  Both the original packaging and venting packaging blackberries had quite a bit of mold and softness.


Grapes

It's always disheartening when you pick out dainty crunchy grapes and a few days later they look more like raisins than grapes.  I constitute that with grapes, washing them in the h2o and vinegar mixture made the biggest departure in keeping them fresh and crunchy.  The unwashed grapes started going soft and wrinkly in the first five-6 days.  The done grapes in both containers stayed crunchy and fresh for the entire 21 days, with the ones in the airtight container keeping the highest quality.


My Conclusion

The most effective way to make your fruit terminal longer is to soak information technology in a bathroom of water and vinegar, let information technology dry on a towel, and store in an closed container in the refrigerator.

The method varies slightly for different kinds of fruit, so I'll take y'all through the procedure here:


The All-time Way to Wash and Store Berries

Step one: Identify berries in a big bowl filled with water and about 1/4 cup vinegar (distilled white or apple cider both work – the vinegar helps kill mold spores).  Soak for about 5 minutes.

Step 2: Rinse berries well to remove any excess vinegar.

Stride 3: Spread out on a clean towel to air dry.  If using strawberries, slice them before laying out to dry.

Step 4: Once mostly dry, place in an airtight container (I prefer drinking glass jars) and store in the fridge.


The All-time Manner to Wash and Store Grapes

Step 1: Place grapes in a large basin filled with h2o and about 1/4 cup vinegar (distilled white or apple cider both work – the vinegar helps kill mold spores).  Soak for nigh 10-15 minutes.

Stride 2: While grapes are soaking, pull them off the vine to stop the ripening process and keep them fresh even longer.  Remove any soft of mushy grapes.

Pace three: Rinse grapes well to remove any excess vinegar.

Stride four: Spread out grapes on a clean towel to air dry out.

Footstep 5: One time mostly dry out, place in an airtight container (I adopt glass jars) and store in the fridge.

NOTE: I also like to wash my other fruits in the vinegar and water bathroom (things like apples, pears, peaches, etc) and so that they're ready to grab and consume at any time.  I store those in the fruit/veggie drawer of my fridge or in a bowl on the kitchen counter.

If y'all find that your berries aren't getting completely dry out or condensation is forming on the within of your container, yous can fold up a paper towel and put it at the top of your container.  After you put the hat on, shop the container upside down in your fridge and so that the newspaper towel is now on the "bottom".
